A LITTLE HISTORY- DID YOU KNOW?

420 North Dexter, Ionia Michigan

Former home of the Grand Valley Brewing Company. The first malt liquor brewed in the United States was created here. Brewery owner ‘Click’ Koerber was the creator of the process and owner of the patent that detailed the production of Clix malt liquor.

In addition to Clix Malt Liquor, the Grand Valley Brewing Company created a Stout beer using the same process. Brewery owner ‘Click’ Koerber is the creator of the process and owner of the patent that details the production of Clix malt liquor.

The Bowling Center was constructed in 1961 as a 16 lane center as John Vandree, one time manager and long time friend recalls. The center was often packed to the gills with league players.  In 1975, the father and son team of Steve and Ted Catlin purchased the center and soon added 8 more lanes.  It was a full house every night in the hayday of bowling leagues, but as our culture started moving to other interests, the “sport” bowlers shrunk in numbers.  In 2007, Cortland and Jennifer Skoog purchased the center and developed it into what you see today.
